The market of telephone operators is always in turmoil, whether we are talking about Italy or abroad. As for our country, we know that the advent of Iliad and the definitive merger between Wind and Tre have reshuffled the cards by redesigning the entire sector. We already know that the French telco is growing strongly, but who is that the fastest?
The data obviously interests users, always looking for the best coverage and, in fact, the highest network speed. Ookla has published the results of the study in which the data collected by the Speedtest were analyzed, highlighting for each country the average download and upload speed for each telephone operator. In Italy, TIM, Vodafone, WindTre and Iliad were considered.
METHODOLOGICAL NOTE: the final score provided by Ookla is a weighted measure that takes into account the average download and upload speed of each operator detected in more than 7 million tests, attributing greater weight to the first (90%) than the second ( 10%).
WindTre is the operator that, on average, offers the highest speed in both download (44.43Mbps) and upload (13.15Mbps). In second place is TIM (DL 35.83Mbps, UL 11.83Mbps), followed by Vodafone (DL 33.67Mbps, UL 10.88Mbps) and Iliad (DL 32.01Mbps, UL 10.69Mbps). In terms of latency TIM wins (33ms), while Iliad is in last place with 57ms. On average, these are the speeds and latencies found in Italy:
- average download speed: 34.26Mbps
- average upload speed: 11.41Mbps
- average latency: 45ms
The final result was elaborated by Ookla as follows:
Among the big cities, Turin is the one that offers the highest download and upload speeds, with WindTre able to go – on average – up to 57.34Mbps and 19.99Mbps respectively. In Milan and Rome the values are more contained, but still higher than the Italian average:
- download: 49.25Mbps with WindTre
- upload: 14.75Mbps with TIM
- download: 40.43Mbps with WindTre
- upload: 12.71Mbps with WindTre
- download: 57.34Mbps with WindTre
- upload: 19.99Mbps with WindTre
In closing, a little curiosity: Ookla's Speedtest Awards Winner for Europe is Vivacom, which in Bulgaria gets 83.64 points thanks to an average download speed of 73.36Mbps and an upload speed of 18.10Mbps.
