Fitbit introduces a new watch face on Ionic, Versa and Sense smartwatches that allows you to constantly monitor the level of oxygen in your blood. There clock face is called SpO2 Signature, and is available for free download from the Fitbit app (link in SOURCE).
Blood oxygenation is a crucial part of the body that properly metabolizes the energy it needs to function at an optimal level. Our bodies distribute oxygenated blood to every part of our body – and SpO2 is the oxygen level in the blood.
The watch face developed by Fitbit uses the sensors integrated in compatible models to measure the level of oxygen present in the blood, taking into account that it is usually a constant value, with minimums recorded at night (in any case above 90%) and maximums during the day. (between 95 and 100%). In the future, you will be able to view the trend of the values by accessing the Health Metrics dashboard, available for Premium members.

Fitbit uses sensors that recognize changes in blood color: the deoxygenated blood that returns to the lungs, in fact, is a darker red than the oxygenated one that leaves the lungs to reach all parts of our body. The integrated infrared sensors therefore detect the reflection of light and, by crossing the data with the heartbeat detected by the PPG sensors, the SpO2 value is estimated.
NOTE: This is not a medical device, and values below 80% will not be detected
To take measurements, simply install the watch face and wear the compatible smartwatch while sleeping (obviously with the watch face activated). More unreleased dials will be released by the end of the year.
The measurement of the oxygen level is therefore made available to all owners of Ionic, Versa and Sense smartwatches: the first signs of this were given at the beginning of the year, when Fitbit itself had released an update to a small number of users that allowed them to receive information about the parameter. The company (remember, owned by Google since the end of 2019) then decided to extend the function to everyone by integrating it within a dedicated watchface.
