Sony VPL-GTZ380 is the new high brightness professional projector based on SXRD ("reflective" LCD) technology. The product measures 560 x 228 x 760 millimeters and weighs approximately 51 kilograms. Inside there are three new generation 0.74 "SXRD panels with 4K resolution, 4096 x 2160 pixels. The light source is hybrid with lasers combined with a color wheel containing phosphors. Sony declares a brightness of 10,000 measured lumens both WLO (White Light Output, measured on white) and CLO (Color Light Output, measured on colors).
Liquid cooling allows to limit noise in 39 dB. The projector is equipped with motorized zoom and lens-shift; the optics are not supplied but can be combined choosing the most suitable for each installation. GTZ380 is credited with the ability to cover the DCI-P3 color space 100%. This result was obtained, according to Sony, thanks to the red laser diode combined with two blue diodes provided with different wavelengths. The native contrast ratio stands at 16,000: 1.
Among the most interesting features there is also the video processor: Sony has opted for X1 Ultimate, the same electronics that we find in many of the Sony high-end TVs, such as the A8 and A9 OLEDs. The version that equips GTZ380 is optimized specifically for projection and has features such as Dynamic HDR Enhancer and Object-based HDR Remaster, two processes aimed at optimizing dynamic range and improving black level. HDR videos are supported in HDR10 and HLG formats.
Available connections include two HDMI inputs and two DisplayPort 1.4 with HDCP 2.3. The projector manages input signals up to 4K resolution at 60 Hz. An optional license can also support 4K at 120 Hz with 10-bit RGB 4: 4: 4 color sampling; in the latter case, a connection with two DisplayPort cables must be used. According to Sony, the ideal environments to take advantage of these capabilities are the CG imaging sector for simulators and the large-screen display of eSport events.
