If we can believe the latest rumors, Sony has doubled the production of the PlayStation 5 to at least 10 million copies before the end of the year. This is reported by the usually reliable website Bloomberg.
The Japanese tech giant is said to have asked suppliers to supply more parts. It looks like Sony is now more confident in demand for the PS5 this year and next year. Sony originally only produced 5 to 6 million copies.
In April, Sony expected to sell fewer consoles in the launch period compared to the PS4. The coronavirus, among others, was the culprit. Now that most countries seem to have the coronavirus under control, Sony has adjusted its expectations.
Sony unveiled the PlayStation 5 some time ago. The PS5 comes in two flavors: one where games can be played via a physical CD and a digital version without a disk drive. In the latter case, only games can be downloaded.
The PlayStation 5 price has not been announced, which will probably follow in August. If we can believe the rumors, the PS5 will cost between 400 and 600 euros. This would make the new PlayStation more expensive than the PS4, which initially sold for 399 euros.
