After five long years comes the highly anticipated Alpha 7 S III, a full frame mirrorless camera dedicated to videomakers that will finally push Sony also in a new direction. The date was unveiled in the past few hours by the Japanese company itself, the appointment is therefore set for July 28 at 16.00 Italian time for a live streaming event that will present the car in all its glory.
The conditions for a mirrorless "killer" are almost all; even if we don't talk about recording in 6K or 8K, the focus could remain 4K but at a high frame rate: 120 fps 10bit in 4: 2: 2. An incredible amount of data (we speak of 600Mbps max) to be captured and 4K clips at 120fps which can be recorded in RAW using the HDMI port.
It is true that Canon has recently presented the EOS R5, which instead promises the 8K in RAW format up to 29.97 fps, but the technical data is opposed to the first evidence of annoying overheating at this resolution (after about 20 minutes) and in 4K at 120 fps (after about 15 minutes). According to rumors, arrived from the very first testers, Sony would have "solved" the temperature problem through a new passive cooling system, but we will have to wait to find out more and above all have direct evidence of it. This will however be one of the most important points given the leap forward in shooting skills.
Appointment then on the last Tuesday of the month, followed by a summary of all the alleged technical specifications starting from the perhaps unpublished image sensor.
