Snapdragon 875 (SM8350) has an internal code name: it's called Lahaina, in honor of the town of just over 10,000 inhabitants on the island of Maui in Hawaii where the Qualcomm Tech Summit will be held towards the end of 2020 (opening photo).
This was reported by the usually well-informed Roland Quandt, who is considered on Twitter "pretty sure"that this is precisely the name adopted internally by Qualcomm to identify the next mobile platform for future high-end smartphones.
Its debut is expected by the end of the year, but to see it on the first devices we will have to wait for the beginning of 2021. Among the manufacturers ready to adopt it there will also be Xiaomi, which will rely on its performance to push the battery recharge up to 100W , as reported by the Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station last month. From Taiwan, on the other hand, rumors rebound that the mass production of the Snapdragon 875 would have already started at the TSMC Nanke 18 factory with a 5nm production process.
SD875 is called to replace the current model 865, recently available also in the Plus version. According to what has emerged so far, the mobile platform will be built with a 5nm production process (865 is at 7nm), it will have an octa-core CPU with Kryo 685 based on Arm V8 architecture, an Adreno 660 GPU and the Snapdragon X60 5G modem with mmWave and sub-6GHz support.
