There's no question that the brand new Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 are powerful consoles. Who will soon come out as the big winner depends mainly on the price tags of the consoles.
Xbox Series X price
Both Microsoft and Sony are willing to sell their consoles at a loss. But how far can they go?
Last week, the American company from Redmond announced the prices of the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. The Series X has a suggested retail price of 499 euros and the Series S has an aggressive price of just 299 euros. For the price of a Nintendo Switch you will soon be able to play next-gen gaming on an Xbox.
Now the ball is with Sony. The Japanese company has still not announced the prices of the PS5 and PlayStation 5 Digital Edition to date. How much loss will Sony take to get the PS5 into every living room?
According to sources from Gamereactor, Sony has had a crisis meeting to adjust the PS5 price. An anonymous source from the site says the PS5 price would have been significantly higher until Microsoft revealed the Series X's price.
Reportedly, the Japanese company wanted to ask 599 euros for the PS5 with disc drive and 499 euros for the digital version. During the crisis meeting, it was decided to lower the price to 499 euros and 399 euros, in order to get as close as possible to the Xbox Series S price.
Sony itself, of course, has not confirmed anything. Wednesday, September 16 at 10 p.m. Dutch time, Sony is organizing a PS5 showcase. In addition to various games, Sony will probably announce the prices and the release date of the PS5 and PlayStation 5 Digital Edition.
