After the recent OLED + 935 TVs, Philips has announced the E2 series monitors. The upcoming models, all made by MMD, partner and licensee for Philips brand monitors, are four: 242E2FA (24 "), 272E2FA (27"), 288E2A (28 ") and 345E2AE (34"). The products feature a slim bezel design on three sides (28 "and 34") or all four (24 "and 27").
The panels are IPS type LCD with W-LED backlight. The specifications vary from one model to another. 242E2FA is a Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) with a 75 Hz refresh rate, a response time of 4 ms GtG (gray to gray) or 1 ms MPRT (Moving Picture Response Time), a brightness of 300 cd / m2 – nits and a 178 ° viewing angle along both axes.
97.4% coverage of the NTSC color space and 113.8% for sRGB is claimed. Features include Flicker-free mode, LowBlue Mode (low blue light output), and AMD FreeSync support. The monitor has a VGA input, an HDMI with HDCP, a DisplayPort, headphone output and analog audio input on 3.5mm jack. The two speakers of 3 W each and the tiltable base (-5/20 degrees) complete the equipment.
272E2FA is still Full HD at 75 Hz. Most of the features are in common with the 24 "but there are some differences. Change the brightness, which rises to 350 cd / m2 – nits and slightly drops the sRGB color space coverage , which here stands at 113.1% Everything else is in common with 242E2FA.
288E2A quadruples the resolution of its "younger brothers" bringing it to Ultra HD (3840 x 2160 pixels). The refresh rate is fixed at 60Hz while the response time is 4ms GtG. We then have a brightness of 300 cd / m2 – nits and the possibility of covering 106.9% of the NTSC color space and 119.7% of sRGB.
The accuracy of the factory calibration is also specified: we speak of a DeltaE (the error with respect to the reference) of less than 2 for the sRGB color space and therefore invisible to the eye (the critical threshold is 3). The 28 "also supports FreeSync and offers two HDMI inputs, a DisplayPort, audio input and headphone output. The audio system is always 3W x 2 and the tilt of the screen can be adjusted.
Finally we come to 345E2AE, an Ultra-Wide with a resolution of 3440 x 1440 pixels in 21: 9 format at 75 Hz. Like the other models, it supports FreeSync and covers 106.8% of the NTSC color space and 120.3% of sRGB. . The brightness is 300 cd / m2 – nits with a response time of 4 ms GtG. The support allows you to adjust the inclination and height. The inputs and outputs are identical to those listed for 28 ".
All E2 series monitors feature SmartContrast technology, capable of analyzing images to automatically optimize colors and backlight intensity. SmartImage affects contrast, saturation and sharpness in the same way. SmartImage Game Mode is instead an on-screen menu that contains some adjustments specially designed for video games. Some examples of the items included are the "FPS" mode, which lightens the dark parts of the image to make objects more visible, or the "Racing" mode, which favors the fastest response time while preserving the brilliance of colors.
The 288E2A and 345E2AE also add MultiView, a feature that allows you to view two sources at the same time to facilitate multitasking. Artem Khomenko, Senior Product Manager in Europe of MMD Monitors & Displays, said:
Many people have created their own home office, and therefore need a monitor that is suitable for multitasking, work and entertainment. The new E2 series is the right series for those who want essential functionality and a modern design.
