Paramount + is a new streaming service that will be launched on international markets starting in 2021. It will start in Australia, Latin America and the countries of Northern Europe. ViacomCBS, the conglomerate that controls Paramount (including the Paramount Network TV channel in Italy), illustrated the project that starts from the transformation into Paramount + of the CBS All Access service, currently available in the United States and also in some countries such as Australia and Canada.
The change, which began in July, will end in early 2021 and will herald global expansion. The offering will expand and provide a catalog with over 30,000 episodes of TV series and entertainment programs, films and original productions from brands such as BET, CBS, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Paramount Pictures and more.
ViacomCBS has announced some of the specially developed content. It starts with "The Offer", a 10-episode series based on the producer's experience Albert S. Ruddy during the making of the cult trilogy of "The Godfather". The screenwriter and executive producer is Michael Tolkin (“Escape at Dannemora” and “The Player”).
"Lioness" is instead a drama / espionage series created by Taylor Sheridan ("Yellowstone"). The story is based on an actual CIA training program; at the center of the story is a young Marine recruited to win the friendship of a terrorist's daughter and destroy the organization from within. The series is produced by Paramount Network and 101 Studios.
"MTV's Behind The Music – The Top 40" is instead a series inspired by "Behind the Music", a production that premiered in 1997. The new reinterpretation takes advantage of MTV's archive of the last 40 years to provide a unique and intimate insight of the 40 greatest artists of all time, through their voices and their point of view. The series is produced by Creature Films and MTV Studios.
"The Real Criminal Minds" is instead a detective docu-series based on real events and on the CBS television series; producing it are XG Productions in association with CBS Television Studios and ABC Signature. The catalog will also include the remake of the "The Game" series which will be part of the programming that BET will offer on Paramount +. The latest title announced is "The Spongebob Movie: Sponge on the run", which will be available via video on demand exclusively on Paramount + in early 2021.
Obviously the streaming service will also offer all the titles currently present or initially planned for CBS All Access: we mention for example "The Good Fight", "The Twilight Zone", "Tooning Out The News", "No Activity", "Why Women Kill "," Interrogation "," The Thomas John Experience "," Tell Me a Story "," The Stand "," The Man Who Fell To Earth "," The Harper House "and" Guilty Party ". There will also be series set in the narrative universe of Star Trek: "Star Trek: Discovery", "Star Trek: Picard", the animated series "Star Trek: Lower Decks" and the new "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" .
At the moment we have no news on the possible landing of Paramount + (as well as on any timing) in other European countries, including Italy. Moreover, there are difficulties to be overcome as all the companies already active in our territory have shown. The main problem concerns the management of rights, including those relating to the series created by the companies headed by ViacomCBS. "Star Trek: Discovery" and "Star Trek: Picard", for example, are already available in Italy thanks to the rights acquired by Netflix and Amazon respectively. In these cases, it is therefore necessary to wait for the deadline or attempt a renegotiation (or renounce part of the theoretically available catalog).
ViacomCBS has not yet announced the prices it will offer for Paramount + outside the United States. CBS All Access (which, we remember, will become Paramount +), is instead offered at $ 6 a month with advertising or $ 10 a month without advertising.
