Gorilla Glass Victus is the latest invention by Corning, the company that has been producing glass coatings for most smartphones on the market for years. The current generation is the sixth, and this is not exactly the seventh: it is something a little different, which promises a resistance to falls from about 1.80 meters while at the same time being even more difficult to scratch.
It is more or less the Gorilla Glass 3 that the scratch resistance of smartphone glass does not demonstrate significant improvements. Corning has focused on impact and drop resistance in recent years. With Victus, however, Corning promises twice the scratch resistance compared to Gorilla Glass 6. In short, it significantly improves in both critical parameters and there do not seem to be any known contraindications.
Of course, the data reported refer to laboratory conditions, and it is important to keep in mind that in the real world surfaces are much more irregular, the angles of fall can be more treacherous, dirt, such as sand, metal and other minerals much harder than glass, can adversely affect scratch resistance … In short, better not to overdo it with confidence.
According to the company itself, Gorilla Glass Victus should debut on a Samsung smartphone that will be released "in the coming months"; other manufacturers are planning their top of the range with the new technology. The Galaxy Note 20 and the leaflets that should debut at the beginning of August seem therefore excluded.
