Nintendo announced the operating results for the first quarter of fiscal year 202, which began last May and will end on 21 April. Net sales reached $ 3.4 billion (yen 358.1 billion) while quarterly operating profit increased 427.7% yoy to $ 1.37 billion (yen 144.7 billion) .
In total, over 61.44 million Nintendo Switches were shipped, an increase of 166% on an annual basis, of which 5.68 million units sold (3.05 million classic and 2.63 million Lite) only in the quarter in question . Moving on to the software, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has reached over 20 million copies sold of which 50% represented by digital copies. The game, therefore, is now the second best-selling ever on Nintendo Switch behind Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Ring Fit Adventure has exceeded a total of 4 million copies sold.
Nintendo has seen seven games reach at least one million units sold this quarter: among them, Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition and Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics, which sold 1.37 million and 1.03 million copies respectively, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Ring Fit Adventure.
Looking ahead, the most anticipated games are the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Bayonetta 3 and Metroid Prime 4 although release dates are missing. Pikmin 3 Deluxe, however, has just been announced but will be released on October 30th.
