A few weeks ago we saw how Apple began to launch the production of the iPhone 11 in India, thus making the price of its current top of the range more attractive for Indian users thanks to the program Make in India.
According to the latest rumors reported by Business Standard, it seems that the same will happen with some of the next iPhone 12 (it is not clear which model it is) and with even faster timing. In fact, production in India could start by mid-next year, so more details of this are likely to emerge during the second quarter of 2021.
The rumors suggest that even the iPhone SE (the 2020 edition that we reviewed in recent months) could be made in India by the end of 2020, although in this case it seems that the models produced will be destined for the domestic market. In fact, we remind you that the tax breaks and incentives offered by the Make in India program allow Apple to be more competitive and to offer its smartphones on less unpopular price ranges. Otherwise, it would be forced to face heavy duties on the import of electronic goods (around 22%).
But the production in India is not considered by Apple only to be able to strengthen its presence in the territory. It is in effect one of the alternatives that the Cupertino house is experimenting with – apparently with success – to reduce its dependence on the Chinese production chain, so it is likely that part of the iPhone 12 made in India will also be marketed on international markets.
