During IFA 2020, Acer announced the new Spin and Swift series laptops, introducing a major hardware platform update for both. Spin 7 is now equipped with the second generation Snapdragon 8cx 5G (more details on the SoC here), while two are the new variants of Swift 3 and one of Swift 5, all equipped with the latest 11th generation Intel Core processors, announced yesterday by the Santa Clara house.

The new Spin 7 retains its nature as a 2-in-1 convertible but changes in an important way internally, since the previous solutions based on Intel processors give way to the latest version of the Snapdragon 8cx 5G, now in its second generation. The transition to the Qualcomm platform allows Spin 7 to become Acer's first laptop with full 5G network connectivity (therefore both Sub 6GHz and millimeter waves), obviously based on Windows 10 on ARM.
Acer has also enriched Spin 7 by integrating an active type Wacom pen, which can be housed in the case of the 2-in-1 for charging and can offer support at up to 4096 levels of pressure. The details on the new Spin 7 are not entirely complete – also because Acer has not announced a price and a launch date for any market – but we do know that the laptop is equipped with a 14 "IPS touch (360 ° flip) display. and FullHD resolution with panel Antimicrobial Corning Gorilla Glass, 2 USB Type-C ports and one USB A. According to Acer, the autonomy should allow more days of use, but for this and other more precise details it will be necessary to wait some more time.
Definitely more traditional, the two new models of the Acer Swift 3 range offer both the new 11th generation Intel Core i7 and Core i5 processors, metal chassis and are equipped with the new Iris Xe graphics card, without forgetting the support for Thunderbolt 4 technologies. and WiFi 6 (Gig +). There is no shortage of up to 16GB of DDR4 RAM, SSD-type memories and fingerprint reader for Windows Hello.
Both are part of the Intel Project Athena program, however they have not yet obtained the Intel Evo certification, for which they will have to wait for further optimizations. However, it seems that Acer is willing to make sure that the two laptops can boast the new logo associated with the certification.
Going into the details of the single models, the Swift 3 (SF313-53) is equipped with a 13.5-inch display with a resolution of 2256 x 1504 pixels in 3: 2 format, 100% coverage of the sRGB color gamut and brightness of 400 candles per square meter. Swift 3 (SF313-53) also offers up to 18 hours of battery life, has an aluminum and magnesium-aluminum case (palm rest area), a thickness of only 15.95 mm and weighs 1.19 kg.
As for the other variant, Swift 3 (SF314-59), the main differences seem to lie in the presence of a 14 "panel – again FullHD – with 5mm frames and a screen / body ratio of 82.73% and in a slightly higher weight (1.2 kg), while the thickness of 15.95 mm and the aluminum and magnesium-aluminum construction remain unchanged.
Both variants with 11th Generation Intel Core processor will be available in EMEA markets (including Italy) in November. In particular, Acer Swift 3 (SF313-53) will be offered starting from 899 euros, while Acer Swift 3 (SF314-59) will start from 799 euros.
Finally we find the new Acer Swift 5 (SF514-55), also equipped with 11th generation Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors and in this case already equipped with Intel Evo certification. The graphics sector is also entrusted here to the new GPU Intel Xe and we find a battery that can offer up to 17 hours of autonomy.
The Swift 5 panel is a 14 "FullHD unit that reaches a brightness of 300 candelas per square meter and offers color coverage equal to 72% of the sRGB color space. There is no shortage of ultra-thin bezels on all four sides that allow the screen to reach a display / body ratio of 90%.
As for the construction, Acer has chosen to equip Swift 5 with a magnesium-lithium and magnesium-aluminum case that allows the laptop to maintain an extremely low weight: we are talking about about 1 kg. As on the Spin 7, here too we find a touch display coated with Antimicrobial Corning Gorilla Glass and the same antimicrobial treatment may be required – as an optional addition – for the touchpad, keyboard and all device covers.
Acer Swift 5 (SF514-55) with 11th generation Intel Core processor will be available in EMEA countries (including Italy) in October, with prices starting from 1,099 euros.
