Google Chat is preparing to receive direct message reading indicators similar to those found in Hangouts – but in hindsight in virtually all the latest generation instant messaging software. Google's implementation is more like Facebook Messenger than WhatsApp – no double blue check, but the small profile photo that indicates "how far has it gone" the user to read. In Hangouts, the images were under the last read message, while in Chat they will be at the bottom right. The indicators, Google points out, will only be found in direct 1: 1 conversations, not in groups.
The news was announced in the past few hours, but it will not be distributed before October 5 – so we have to wait another month.
Maybe this month Google also has time to distribute the dark theme for Google Maps, which is in the works. Colleagues from 9to5google they dissected the latest version of the Android app and found several references. It is worth mentioning that Maps has a sort of dark theme, in the sense that when it is night or when you enter a gallery with active navigation the map, but only that, changes color. The menu, the general interface, the settings and the map outside the navigation mode always remain light in color.
As usual, the clues found in an APK teardown are an indication of what is cooking at Google, but they do not provide very precise details on the release in the stable channel. It is true that in Mountain View the implementation of the dark theme on more and more services has become a priority in the last period, especially after the explosion of displays with OLED technology, so it is reasonably sure that sooner or later Maps will be dyed black too. .
