Facebook has just made official the second generation of Oculus Quest, confirming all the rumors that have emerged previously regarding the design and specifications of the viewer.
Quest 2 evolves from its predecessor thanks to a 10% weight reduction (up to 503 grams), accompanied by an update of the technical specifications. Now, in fact, we find a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 SoC (based on Snapdragon 865), 6GB of RAM memory and a new single LCD type display (therefore no longer OLED type) with high resolution from 1832 x 1920 pixels per eye, with refresh rate at 90Hz.
A physical mechanism for changing the distance between the lenses is also back, able to offer different levels of interpupillary distance. Also confirmed compatibility with Oculus Link, the cable that can transform the Quest into a real replacement for the Rift S, thanks to the possibility of connecting it to the PC to access the Rift library.
Oculus completely redesigned the Touch controllers for better ergonomics and introduced positional audio directly into the headset. For better sound or private listening, you can connect headphones or earphones using the 3.5mm jack.
Oculus Quest 2 will be available starting October 13 – with pre-orders open from today – at a price of 349 euros for the basic 64GB version, while it goes to 449 euros for the 256GB cut. Various accessories will also be available together with the viewer, including the Elite Strap with additional battery and case (139 euros) and the single Elite Strap (49 euros); more details on the official website:
