Bang & Olufsen (B&O) celebrates 95 years of activity by announcing the Beoplay H95, what are defined as the best wireless headphones made to date by the Danish brand. The product is supra-aural (over-ear) and is built with quality materials. The main structure is made of titanium and brushed aluminum. The H95s measure 185 (W) x 165 (H) x 80 (D) millimeters and weigh 323 grams.
The ear cup pads are removable, rotatable and tiltable to ensure greater comfort and to better fit the head. This solution allows the headphones to block (passively) the noises coming from the outside. The earpads are made of lambskin and use memory foam to fit the shape of the ear. The headband is in leather and custom knitted fabric with a padding made of memory foam.
To facilitate interaction, what B&O calls quadrants inspired by the focus rings of the lenses on cameras have been included. It is a kind of ferrules that move with a uniform resistance and which are characterized by a thin and linear texture that confirms the contact with the fingers. The user can use them to quickly access the main adjustments: the right dial controls the volume while the left one sets the level of active noise cancellation (ANC, Active Noise Cancellation) and transparency (the ability to pass external noise).
Gavin Ivester, VP of Design at Bang & Olufsen, said:
Beoplay H95 is the result of our philosophy according to which a focused design is a beautiful design, where aesthetics and best performance are integrated. Our purposeful design is expressed through essential forms, characterized by function and impeccably made. Attention to detail and the highest performance are the basis of our approach to design, Expressive Minimalism, which gives the Beoplay H95 that calm and reassuring personality that distinguishes them. Home, work, and transportation can all be dynamic environments that require a response, whether it's adjusting to a new noise level or shifting your attention for a minute to respond to someone. The dials make it quick and easy to do what you need and follow the flow of the moment. They look like precision equipment, and they really are.
The H95 are equipped with four MEMS microphones for voice capture (two are in common with those used for noise cancellation) and four microphones for the ANC (two for each ear cup). Operation is based on digital processing performed based on information recorded by microphones. The development of this system was carried out with the help of B&O's Virtual Acoustic Laboratory (VR Lab) located in Struer, where various noise conditions are simulated: planes, railway stations, offices, roads, etc. The voice assistant Siri is currently supported but Alexa and Google Assistant will also arrive via updates.
Connectivity is mainly based on Bluetooth 5.1 with SBC, AAC and aptX Adaptive, a format developed to ensure low latency and greater scalability in communication between source and headphones. If you want, you can still use a cable connection via a 3.5 mm jack port. The sound is generated by 40mm titanium electrodynamic transducers with neodymium magnets. A sensitivity of 101.5 dB (1 mW @ 1 kHz), a substantially flat frequency response (20 Hz – 20 kHz) and an impedance of 12 ohms (+/- 15%) are claimed. The optimization is entrusted to a proprietary DSP (Digital Signal Processing engine) which also allows you to intervene on the equalization via the Bang & Olufsen app.
The internal battery has a capacity of 1,110 mAh and guarantees an autonomy of up to 38 hours with Bluetooth and ANC or up to 50 hours with only Bluetooth. Full charging takes two hours and is done via the USB-C port. The H95 makes transport easy thanks to the foldable design. Included is an aluminum-coated carrying case, a microfiber cloth to clean the headphones, a USB-A to USB-C cable, a cable to 3.5mm jack and the adapter for using the headphones on the plane .
Christoffer Poulsen, SVP of Product Management at Bang & Olufsen, said:
The Beoplay H95 are a distillation of the best elements that characterize Bang & Olufsen, sound, design and craftsmanship: an evolution in the category of headphones to give a new impetus to 95 years of history and high standards.
The Beoplay H95 will be available from 10 September in Black and Gray Mist colors. From August 27, 95 copies numbered from 1 to 95 will already be distributed to celebrate B&O's anniversary. The list price is set at 800 euros.
