Epic Games, developer of Fortnite, among others, can no longer release new apps and games for the iPhone, iPad and Macs. Apple has now also shut down Epic Games' developer account after previously removing Fortnite from the App Store.
Apple vs Fortnite
Apple users who have already downloaded Epic Games' apps and games can still play it without issue. In-app purchases via Apple's payment system is no longer possible and users do not have to expect an app update for the time being.
The American tech giant from Cupertino removed Fortnite from the App Store earlier this month because developer Epic Games had come into the game with its own payment system to bypass mandatory remittances to Apple. Epic Games therefore took Apple and Google to court, which ruled that Apple may ban Fortnite from its App Store.
Google has also removed Fortnite from its Play Store for the same reason. Android users can still install the game on their device via a detour.
At stake in the conflict is the 30 percent commission that Apple wants from every purchase in the App Store. Epic Games thinks that is too much.
