The government of South Korea wants to launch its first pilot program on 6G in 2026, with the aim of commercial distribution within the next 2-4 years, according to an article in the financial newspaper Business Korea. The network that will be heir to the current 5G should be up to 50 times faster, reaching TeraByte per second, and have almost zero latency, in the order of 0.1 milliseconds. Over the course of the week, Prime Minister Chung Se-kyun outlined the final points of the investment strategy to achieve the ambitious goal.
Research and development will have to focus on key patents and the preventive creation of cutting-edge technology; the spending plan has been set at around $ 170 million over five years, starting in 2021. Initially, work will be done to complete 10 tasks in six key areas:
Among the various specifications, the government predicts that the repeaters will even be 10 km above the ground, thus implying the widespread use of satellites and other aerial systems.
